The Aims and
Objectives of NEOC
The Course aims
to prepare women and men for public ministry in the church.
We do this by fostering patterns of prayer, discipleship and learning
which will sustain them in their public, professional and personal
lives. However, this is a lifelong process, and the course marks
only its beginning.
The North East
Ordination Course exists to serve the churches in the North East Region
of England by providing pre-ordination or pre-accreditation education
for candidates who have been sponsored by their respective churches.
The Course is recognised for this purpose by the Northern Province
of the United Reformed Church, by the Division of Ministries of the
Methodist Church, and by the Advisory Board of Ministry of the Church
of England for candidates from the dioceses of Durham, Newcastle,
Ripon and York.
Candidates are
prepared for both stipendiary and non-stipendiary ordained ministries,
for accredited lay ministry in the Church of England, and such other
ministries as the churches may (with the agreement of NEOC Council)
request.
Engagement
with the Churches of the region:
In order to achieve
this purpose, the Course seeks to be responsive to the ministerial
needs of the churches in the North East region of England, by participation
in or contact with the appropriate boards, committees, working parties
or other bodies charged with the development of ministry and ministerial
strategy in the churches of the region.
